Pathology

The Pathology service is responsible for the study of tissue from any component of the human body that needs a diagnosis to define a disease, prognosis or treatment.

They perform case reviews, that is, they reevaluate a tissue that has been evaluated in another laboratory and there is any diagnostic doubt or it is required to complement the diagnosis with additional tests.

Our services in Pathology
  • Freezing studies

Study of a fragment of fresh tissue from a patient operated in the operating room, which seeks to know if there is presence of malignancy to define the surgical conduct.

  • Fine needle aspiration biopsy

The study of a cellular spread that has been aspirated from a solid organ or a hollow viscera, in order to give a diagnostic approach.

  • Small biopsies

Study of a fragment of body tissue to determine a diagnosis.

  • Study of surgical specimen

Study of an organ or part of it to determine a diagnosis.

  • Immunohistochemical markers

Staining performed on tissues to determine the expression of molecules that aid in the classification of tissues and tumors.

  • Molecular biology tests

Molecular studies to determine specific genetic alterations.

  • Body cytology studies

Study of a cellular spread of a solid organ or hollow viscus to provide a diagnostic approach.

  • Cervicovaginal cytology

Sampling and interpretation of the study as a screening test for cervical cancer.

When to check Pathology?

Consulting with a pathologist may be necessary in a variety of situations related to the diagnosis and interpretation of diseases and disorders.

  • If you undergo a biopsy or tissue extraction during surgery, a pathologist will examine those samples under a microscope to diagnose diseases such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, infections, or other conditions.
  • In cases where cell samples are taken, such as in Pap smear cytology for cervical cancer detection or samples of bodily fluids (e.g., cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid), a pathologist will evaluate those cells for abnormalities or diseases.
  • Pathologists can interpret the results of various laboratory tests, such as blood tests, urine analysis, microbiological cultures, and molecular diagnostic tests, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.
  • In the case of chronic diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, hematological disorders, or other complex conditions, a pathologist may conduct regular follow-ups and assess disease progression through laboratory tests and tissue sample analysis.
