Pediatric oncology is the specialty that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of children and adolescents suspected or confirmed to have benign or malignant tumors (cancer).

In our Oncology Unit, we provide specialized and comprehensive medical care to children and adolescents from 0 to 18 years old with any type of tumor (whether benign or malignant) or cancerous diseases such as:

  • Leukemias
  • Lymphomas
  • Brain tumors
  • Neuroblastoma
  • Renal and bone tumors

  • Specialized outpatient consultation for first visits, second opinions, or follow-ups

  • Hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (bone marrow transplant)

When to check Pediatric Oncology?

It is advisable to consult with one of our pediatric oncologists if a child or adolescent presents any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever for more than one week without explanation or recurrent fevers without a clear cause
  • Persistent bone or joint pain
  • Persistent bleeding or bruising in the absence of injury
  • Growth of tumors or appearance of masses anywhere in the body
  • Abnormal growth of lymph nodes
  • Easy fatigue, paleness, or sudden anemia
  • Progressive weight loss
  • Night sweats without an obvious cause
  • Recurrent infections that do not improve
  • Testicular enlargement without pain

Additionally, any child with suspected or confirmed tumor, whether benign or malignant, should be evaluated by a Pediatric Oncologist.
