Geriatrics

Geriatrics specializes in the care of older adults, considering factors such as aging, chronic diseases, polypharmacy (use of multiple medications), and complex medical conditions.

Our services in Geriatrics

Our VIDA Program is dedicated to promoting an Integral, Dignified, and Autonomous aging experience. We provide multidisciplinary care to individuals over 60 who are experiencing illness, as well as their families or caregivers. Our approach is holistic, patient-centered, and involves a team of geriatric specialists who identify and address the specific needs of each patient with precision, quality, and excellence.

We provide patients and their families with access to education from our Gerontology Nursing team. This education covers care according to health conditions, signs and symptoms, rehabilitation, and home care.

Geriatric Medical Care in Emergency and Hospitalization:

  • We provide care for patients over 60 years old with multiple illnesses or chronic and acute diseases.
  • We assess risks prior to surgical or interventional procedures and provide post-care support for the patient and their family.
  • We offer decision-making support for defining invasive interventions in elderly patients.
  • We attend to and support patients with fragility fractures (orthogeriatrics).

Outpatient and Institutional Consultations:

  • We conduct medical follow-ups for elderly patients in postoperative orthogeriatric care and those with chronic comorbidities.

Specialized Gerontology Nursing Care for Emergency and Hospitalization Services

  • We accompany elderly patients, identifying their needs and providing related education.
  • We identify intra- and extra-hospital risks and intervene through education and awareness.

When to check Geriatrics?

It is advisable to consult with a geriatrician in various situations related to the health and well-being of older adults. Some of these situations include:

  • Comprehensive health status assessment: Geriatricians specialize in the care of older adults and are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments of the physical, mental, and functional health status of older individuals. This is especially important for early detection and management of common health problems in this stage of life such as chronic diseases.
  • Management of chronic diseases: Many older adults suffer from multiple chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, arthritis, among others.
  • Prevention of falls and injuries: Falls are one of the leading causes of injuries and disability in older adults. A geriatrician can conduct a fall risk assessment and recommend prevention strategies such as balance exercises, home modifications, and medication reviews to reduce the risk of falls and injuries.
  • Cognitive problems and dementia: Memory and cognitive problems are common in old age and can be early signs of dementia or other neurodegenerative conditions. A geriatrician can conduct specialized assessments to diagnose and treat these problems, as well as provide guidance and support to patients and their families.
