What is CT-guided biopsy?
CT-guided biopsy is a procedure performed by a radiologist, who is guided by images to take a small sample of the organ to be studied (lung, kidney, liver, among others). It is performed under local anesthesia and a small part of the tissue is taken with a special needle.
Approximate duration of procedure
1 hour.
Does it require fasting?
This study requires 6 hours of prior fasting.
General indications for the exam
- You must have coagulation tests (PT, PTT, INR), hemoglobin and platelets less than 30 days old.
- Do not apply or ingest any type of anticoagulant, at least 24 hours before the procedure. If you take acetylsalicylic acid or natural medicines, stop taking them 8 days before the biopsy, with prior authorization of your treating physician.
- Be at the point of service 1 hour before the procedure, bring the medical order and the current service authorization addressed to the Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe.
- Bring the previous studies of the organ to be studied, such as ultrasound scans, CT scans and MRI scans along with your medical history.
Care at home:
- Rest for 24 hours after the procedure.
- Consult the emergency department if you have a puncture site with redness, heat, edema or abdominal pain.
- Avoid driving on the day of the procedure.
How can I claim my results?
The results of this exam can be claimed 10 to 12 business days after its completion, either in person at the Radiology service (floor 2, Tower B) or virtually through our online services available on the HPTU Mobile App or through our web portal by clicking here.
